Maya Powis, Vice President

Ms. Powis joined the John Stewart Company’s (JSCo’s) South Bay Regional Office in early 2001 and has served in multiple capacities within JSCo’s Accounting, Administration and Property Management divisions during her tenure. She currently serves as the Vice President of the South Bay Region, overseeing a growing portfolio of more than 8,000 affordable and mixed income units. In this role, Ms. Powis oversees all administrative, marketing, property management and compliance operations for the region.

After a short stint working for a non-profit affordable housing developer, Ms. Powis returned to JSCo in 2013 to provide oversight of a large portfolio of Santa Clara County Housing Authority properties and staff. Over the following decade, her fostering of this important partnership and steadfast commitment to high quality service resulted in JSCo’s continued assumption of the Housing Authority’s entire portfolio of owned assets, now the South Bay region’s largest client (and amongst the top 10 companywide).

With more than 20 years’ experience in the affordable housing industry, Ms. Powis is skilled in a wide range of Federal and State affordable housing programs, including HUD, LIHTC, Project Based Section 8, HOME, and various HCD programs. She has worked closely with public agencies and clients on many complex projects and has successfully led many tax credit acquisitions, lease-ups of new developments and property takeovers from other management firms.

Ms. Powis is credentialed as a Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) and Advanced Tax Credit Specialist (ATCS).
